Description
Nestled at the end of School Lane, just off Church Road in the tranquil village of Alresford, lies a beautifully established 4-acre lake that is the epitome of rural charm.
Once an old gravel pit, the lake is now framed by mature, overhanging trees that cast dappled shadows over its serene waters. During the summer months, the lake becomes cloaked in lush weed growth, enhancing its natural beauty and creating a peaceful, almost hidden oasis. Truly, this lake is the crown jewel of the area.
The water depth varies from a shallow 3 feet at the ‘cottage end’ to over 12 feet at the deeper ‘footpath end,’ making it a dynamic environment for both aquatic life and anglers alike. The lake’s long, narrow expanse is rich with unique features—gravel bars, weed beds, and more—each offering its own charm and challenge. Overhanging trees stretch across the water’s edge, providing shady spots that beckon visitors to pause and enjoy the tranquillity.
Fish Stock
The lake is home to a rich and diverse stock of fish, making it a popular spot for anglers of all levels. A large population of Roach can be found here, with many exceeding 1lb, while Rudd occasionally tip the scales at over 2lbs. Perch are also present, with impressive specimens reaching 3lbs and above.
Among the lake’s most prized inhabitants are its original Carp, some of which have grown to over 20lbs, with a select few surpassing the 30lb mark. Recently, a small number of young Carp were introduced to the waters, and their growth is being carefully monitored, adding to the lake’s future potential.
Tench, though present in smaller numbers, can reach remarkable sizes, with a few specimens boasting double-figure weights. Bream are more plentiful, with individuals as large as 8lbs being caught from time to time.
Finally, the lake supports a healthy stock of Pike, some of which are now approaching an impressive 20lbs, adding an exciting predator dynamic to the lake’s ecosystem.
