Description

This well-established 5-acre lake, located in the village of Brantham near Manningtree, is tucked away at the end of Factory Lane. Most of the lake’s perimeter is fishable, except for a small section on the far left-hand side, offering plenty of opportunities for anglers.

Surrounded by a predominantly tree-lined shoreline, the lake boasts a variety of natural features. Large areas are adorned with lilies, and part-submerged trees add to the charm, providing ample fishing spots and habitats for fish.

We currently are operating angling on an informal basis whilst we are in discussions with the council regarding a new lease. Responsibility for the pond and its surroundings lie with the council as the land-owners, and final terms of future improvements are to be agreed as part of a new lease negotiation to allow us to collaborate on enhancing and improving this picturesque lake for future generations.

Fish Stock

This lake was once home to an abundant stock of Carp, with most weighing between 3-6lbs and a few exceptional fish reaching 12lbs or more. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite our best efforts and countless sleepless nights for our club officials, the fishery was heavily impacted by poaching, resulting in a dramatic decline in the Carp population.

Thankfully, these issues have since been resolved, and the lake has made a remarkable recovery. The silver fish stocks, in particular, have flourished, growing significantly in both numbers and strength. The remaining Carp are still present in decent numbers, and their quality continues to improve, signalling a brighter future for the fishery.
