Welcome to Paxman’s Angling Club

The club was founded in 1950 by the workers at Davey Paxman and Co., an engineering firm based in Colchester.

The club was, for many decades, run as a works club, and was one of many sports sections of Paxman’s Athletic and Social Club. During the middle to late nineties, with the continual reduction of the Company and subsequent demise of the Social Club, the Angling club, through the endeavours of the Committee continued as an independent open membership club.

Today we are a friendly thriving club, which welcomes all anglers albeit pleasure, specimen, carp or match, with our club waters holding fish that will cater for every discipline. In recent years, we have greatly increased our efforts in incorporating modern, and ever-improving fishery management techniques into our organisation. We now operate a waiting list for new members, to ensure the best quality angling for current members at any given time. We operate zero-tolerance polices on abuse of our waters or rules, delivered through a devoted committee.

  • Improvements to the parking at Wix 2
Both parking bays on the village side have been improved and a large parking and turning area at the end of the track created. Path along the end of Wix 1 also levelled to provide access from the Wix 2 car park. Thanks to Steve Cook, Mark Sherman, Allan Heffernan, Paul Marchant for helping with these essential improvement works.
  • Wix 2 Carp Stocking November 2024
We introduced on Thursday 14/11/2024 9 more Carp between 16-19lb to Wix 2. As we had drastically reduced the biomass we felt it was appropriate to bolster the Carp stock with high quality, good size fish. These were from a well known fishery management company as part of a stock cropping on an unfished estate lake. We got an extremely good deal, so it doesn’t alter our existing plans for the Rectangle and Home Farm this winter in terms of stocking.   Whilst they may not see the same growth rates as the larger farmed fish we have purchased over … Read more
  • Alresford Pit – Access Improvement Works
In co-operation with Mark the land owner, and kind contributions in terms of materials, equipment and labour from Super Trowel and Altrad Belle we have installed a brand new parking area at the bottom of the slope at Alresford. This parking area can be used year round, as holds 4-5 cars. It is first come first served only and parking is strictly in the new area only, not on the grass. You can see the Altrad-Belle post here.
  • Wix 2 Netting Results and General Fisheries Update
We had a very successful netting last Saturday. 8 Catfish moved to Home Farm totaling 78lbs. 600-700lb of good quality Roach, Perch and a a good number of tiny Carp moved to Wix 1. 48 Carp, 1 over 30lbs, 20 over 20lbs and 27 upper doubles were left in Wix 2. I think we got over 90% of the stock sorted in this netting. I know of only 2 Cats and 3 20lb Carp we missed. This leaves us with 24 Carp over 20lbs now. We are also due to be adding 10 more fish soon, mostly around the upper … Read more
  • New Website is Live
The new website is now live, with just a few tweaks still to be made. There are much improved venue pages with overhead images and maps of all club waters and photos of every swim, on every venue. Latest news items reside on the home page still, as do venue closure notices. This site also offers better integration, which is soon to be improved and upgraded again, with the stock management solution we use to track fish growth in Home Farm and Alresford. I will also soon be adding a section for member photo submissions of catches and of the … Read more

  • Rumours – Otters at Alresford
We are aware there are several rumours circulating regarding otters at Alresford, whilst it is true to some degree, it seems some of the rumours have blown things out of proportion. To clarify our exact position, we have found a small number of fish (less than 10) over the past month or so. This is not new for Alresford, otters have passed through for years, and the occasional fish has been found, there is no denying though, this is the largest number we have seen in one year, and the first kills for a couple of years. We are actively … Read more
  • St.Osyth Rectangle Stocking Plans
We  have 12,000 mixed silvers due early March for St.Osyth rectangle, which with the thinning of the Carp, and introduction of almost a thousand Crucians and Tench just before Christmas is set to make the Rectangle a great pleasure and match venue without the normal plague of small carp.
  • Wix 2 Stocking 6x C6’s (19-22lbs)
6x C6’s from Chilston Fish Farm have been stocked into Wix 2.
